Orlando Mascia

Si è interessato alla musica sarda sin da bambino, iniziando
a suonare la chitarra e "su sulittu" (zufolo pastorale).
Verso i dodici anni cominciò a prendere lezioni di Launeddas
da Pietrino Murtas, suonatore di Muravera ora novantenne che si
recava a Maracalagonis per accompagnare il locale gruppo folk,
nel quale Mascia rimase per 25 anni. Lo stesso gruppo organizzò
nel 1976 una scuola di Launeddas, sempre con Murtas, presso la
quale Mascia proseguì l'apprendimento. Nel 1982 prese lezioni
da Luigi Lai quando organizzò una scuola a Cagliari. Dotato
di notevole talento musicale, Mascia, che suona anche fisarmonica
e organetto, da parecchi anni è protagonista di numerose
manifestazioni in tutto il mondo, da solista o accompagnando gruppi
folk o altri artisti. Oltre a suonare e costruire le Launeddas,
da qualche anno, si dedica anche all'insegnamento tenendo dei
corsi in alcuni paesi del Campidano. Brano ascoltato: Ballo

He has been interested in Sardinian music since
a child when he started playing the guitar and "su sulittu"
(pastoral flageolet) and he was about twelve when he started taking
lessons of launeddas from Pietrino Murtas, a now 90 years old
player from Muravera who used to go to Maracalagonis to accompany
the local folk group, Mascia stayed for 25 years with. In 1976
the same folk group and Murtas organized a school of Launeddas
where Mascia kept on his learning. In 1982 he took lessons from
Luigi Lai, too, when a school was established in Cagliari. Mascia,
who is endowed with a remarkable musical talent and plays also
accordion and concertina for a great number of years has been
the protagonist of many festivals in all the world, either as
a soloist or accompanying lots of folk groups or other artists.
Besides playing and building launeddas since a few years he has
been devoting himself to teaching holding courses in a few villages
of Campidano.
