WALKING ALONG ORISTANO
Oristano, capital of the Oristanese region, has
its origins in the historical events linked to the
Giudicato of Arborea.
The Tower of Mariano II, an impressive building,
known also as the "Porta Manna", is one of the few
elements remaining of the old city walls built by
the Giudice (Prince) Mariano II in 1291.
Oristano presents a number of churches worth a
visit, such as that of St. Francesco, with
Nicodemo's cross and the painting representing St.
Francesco; the dome of the Assunta, with the
statue of the Annunziata and the chapel of the
Rimedio; the church of St.Chiara.
The museum of the "Antiquarium Arborense" is also
not to be missed and, among the seaside resort:
Marina di Torregrande.
